We often connect our existence to our position in our communities, our family and friends, the intellectual and emotional articulation of our minds, and the desires and needs of our body.
We might say "I am a student studying computer science, I have two brothers and I live in Ghana." We don't ever take the time to analyze our existence and ask the greatest question in the world, "Who am I?"
Many believe that they have a healthy sense of awareness, but it is good to look at a relevant scale to see where you actually fall on it compared to others. Being aware creates the window for change in one's beliefs and behavior.
Self-awareness begins the journey of the life you want. It outlines the strength of your personality, emotions, and passions. You will be aware of where your thoughts and emotions are leading you, so you can make alterations if something goes wrong. All I'm saying is that self-awareness is the genesis of change.
In 1972, Duval and Wicklund hypothesized self-awareness in their book, 'A Theory Of Objective Self-Awareness'. The book says, if we focus our attention inwardly on ourselves we tend to compare our behaviors in the current moment to our general principles and values. This creates a state of accurate self-awareness.
Plain and simple: Have a deep accord of your habits, weakness, strengths, and values. And when you absorb your faults, you can concentrate on your self-improvement.
It's easy to get entangled with unreasonable thoughts and beliefs and bringing life into internal dramas that can affect the way we see ourselves and therefore determine our feelings and actions. Okay so, when you can change the road map in your mind of what you think, you can change your emotions and enhance the emotional quality of your relationships. This can easily be done when we open up to new possibilities in our lives.
Having a clear understanding of your behaviors and thoughts helps you to really understand people. This amazing capacity to understand ourselves and people create great personal and business related relationships.
Why is this shit important?
It's important because understanding yourself and your mistakes is a superpower to create improvements in your life. Our goals will become clear when we are aware of our strengths and weakness.
